Immunology and Allergy Diseases

Immunology refers to the science of the immune system. Allergy is a condition where the immune system reacts excessively to substances that it should not normally respond to. Allergic diseases manifest as allergic rhinitis (hay fever, spring allergy), allergic asthma, and skin allergies. In our daily lives, allergenic diseases related to the eyes, nose, and respiratory tract are caused by pollen, dust mites, cat and dog fur, and mold spores. Medications, various chemicals, dyes can cause redness, itching, and swelling on the skin. Certain foods, especially in children (milk, eggs, nuts, fish, seafood), can cause allergic reactions.
